Abe Froman Sausage is no longer King, Kreger’s turns 125

-

A Naperville institution – outlasting A&P, Dominick’s, Cee Bee’s and many more – Kreger’s Brat and Sausage Haus celebrated 125 years in business Saturday afternoon.

Fourth generation grocer and butcher Bill Kreger revamped Kreger’s Central Foods in 2013 to focus on what they do best – brat and sausage making.

Now called Kreger’s Brat and Sausage Haus, Kreger has obtained a cult-like status in the Chicago area food scene.

In addition to their famous handcrafted brats, Kreger’s offers a weekly variety of sausages made with everything from chicken, bison, beef and turkey. And Kreger’s sister Susie bakes fresh rolls, cookies and desserts to compliment everything sausage.

It’s the perfect spot for lunch Thursday through Saturday, offering brats grilled year round, and they serve breakfast Saturday mornings from 8-10:30AM.

Kreger’s will be closed until March 29, because they are going ice fishing.

Hours: Thursday-Friday 9AM – 6PM, Saturday 8AM – 5PM

Address: 6th & Ellsworth, Naperville – 1 Block North of Historic 5th Avenue Station

Website: kregersbrats.com

EDITOR’S NOTE / Beginning at 6PM on the first Monday of every month (except when it conflicts with a holiday), Bill Kreger opens his store for members of IndieBound Naperville, a group of local independent business owners and managers. PN Ombudsman
An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
