NAPERVILLE, Ill. — At 08:39AM on Thurs., Dec. 14, 2017, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the tenant of a multi-family residence in 1500 block of Fairway Drive. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a fire unit to the scene for the outside smoke investigation. The alarm was upgraded to a Full Still followed by a General Alarm assignment. The first fire company on the scene found a smoldering fire on the third-floor balcony area that extended into the apartment unit. The General Alarm brought 10 pieces of fire apparatus and 24 fire personnel to the scene.

The first fire department units arrived on scene at 08:46AM, within 6 minutes of the initial call and reported no visible smoke or fire from the exterior of the structure. When fire personnel entered the third-floor unit they found light smoke coming from the exterior balcony and a smoldering fire in the floor. The fire was immediately extinguished by the engine company. Salvage and overhaul operations were completed in the second and third floor units.

Four adults and two children exited their apartments prior to the arrival of the fire department. An inspector
from Naperville’s Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire is
currently under investigation and three apartment units were deemed uninhabitable. The American Red Cross was notified to provide assistance to the occupants.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Public Works, Naperville Electric Department (NED) and Nicor Gas Company. The Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District, Aurora Fire Department, Westmont Fire Department and Winfield Fire Protection District provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
