It’s that time of year again. I call it “the Happy Time.” People seem to be cheerier and friendlier. I love the Christmas music in the stores. And again…yes, there is a free (Christmas) lunch.
The annual luncheon will be on Christmas Day at 11:30 at the Chicago Marriott Naperville Hotel, located at 1801 N. Naper Blvd. The special event is sponsored by the YMCA and the Naperville Park District. It’s for seniors and families in need. Last year about 200 attended.
There will be a piano player during the lunch, plus prizes for – guess what? What do seniors love to play? Of course, it’s Bingo. Also Santa will visit. What more could you ask?
For reservations call Polly Rhodes at the YMCA (630) 527-6599 no later than December 11. Also, volunteer servers are needed.
Speaking of Santa, not long after we had moved here in 1962, I hired a local Santa to come to my house for my two kids, ages 5 and 3. I was to purchase a picture book and leave it outside by the door. So when Santa came, he picked it up and came in and read it to the two. He put one kid on each knee. And they were wide eyed looking at him.
When he was going to leave, he asked Cindi, then 6 years old, to give Santa a kiss on his cheek. Cindi backed away looking very skeptical at him and all those whiskers and said to my Mother, “Grandma, will you kiss him?”
