NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Naperville Police have arrested two individuals accused of committing an armed robbery in Naperville on August 21, 2017.
Craig C. Garner, 19, of the 900 block of 3rd Street in LaSalle, IL, and Jalen T. Martinez, 20, of the 1400 block of Carleton Avenue in Naperville, are each charged with one count of Aggravated Robbery, a Class 1 felony, stemming from the August 21 robbery of a 14-year-old male from Naperville.
Martinez is also charged with one count of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, a Class 4 felony, for speeding and disobeying traffic control devices while trying to elude police a short time after the robbery.
During the incident, which occurred around 1AM in the 600 block of south Route 59, police allege Garner and Martinez displayed a handgun and took a backpack and other items from the youth. Police located the offending vehicle abandoned in the 1200 block of Webster Road later that same day. A handgun was also recovered.
Following further investigation into the incident, police arrested Martinez on September 11, 2017, and Garner on October 20, 2017.
The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
