Veterans in Touch – Good to know

-

The question of the day for Veterans and family members is, “Do you know the difference between the North Aurora Community Based Outreach Clinic (CBOC) and the Aurora Vet Center?”

The CBOC is a part of the Hines VA Healthcare system. They provide the basic medical services such as blood tests, physicals and limited medical specialties. The good thing for Veterans is that they don’t have to go to Hines for their basic medical needs. The address and phone are:

161 S. Lincolnway, North Aurora, 60502, Phone: (630) 859-2504

The Aurora Vet Center is also part of the VA Healthcare system.

We are the people in VA who welcome home war veterans with honor by providing quality readjustment counseling in a caring manner. Vet Centers understand and appreciate Veterans’ war experiences while assisting them and their family members toward a successful post-war adjustment in or near their community.

The address and phone number are:

750 Shoreline Drive, Suite 150, Aurora, 60504, Phone: (630) 585-1853

Understanding the aging brain

The Hines VA Neuropsychology Program is sponsoring a free educational workshop on “Understanding the Aging Brain.” It is open to Veterans and any supporters of Veterans. The date is Thursday, October 26, from 10AM to noon.

The location for the workshop is Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873, 908 W. Jackson Ave. in Naperville.

The purpose of the workshop is to present current information on the aging brain to include:

  • Learn what happens to the brain and out thinking abilities as we age
  • Learn about normal and abnormal aspects of aging
  • Identify ways to maintain our cognitive health and well being
  • Answer any questions or concerns you may have about the aging brain

If you would like to attend RSVP to:

Dr. Amanda Urban at (708) 202-2682 or me, Mike Barbour at (630) 240-1645

I have attended this workshop in the past and the VA team provides excellent information and helps to allay some of the fears and concerns you may have about forgetting people or events or not being able to remember where you put the keys or cellphone. Please secure your reservation ASAP so we have enough handouts.
