Art Talk – Celebrate arts and humanities

-

Arts DuPage invites you to celebrate the arts and humanities in DuPage County!

Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education in America, invites all Americans to celebrate October as National Arts and Humanities Month. The month-long celebration is the country’s largest collective celebration of arts and culture.

“National Arts and Humanities Month is a time to reflect on the many ways the arts and humanities have contributed to our cultural and community landscapes, allowing us to explore ideas, express emotions, and better appreciate cultures from around the world,” said Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts.

Originally launched by Americans for the Arts 30 years ago as National Arts Week, the initiative was recast as National Arts and Humanities Month in 1993 to carry out the goals of focusing on the arts and humanities at local, state, and national levels; encouraging individuals and organizations to participate in the arts; allowing governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and raising public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.

You can show your support of Arts & Humanities Month by taking an active role in discovering and appreciating the culture offerings in your area.

Naperville is a robust, art-conscious community that recognizes the positive social and economic impact of art on the city and its residents. North Central College, Anderson’s Bookshop, Naperville Art League, School of the Performing Arts, and Naper Settlement are just a few of the places beckoning you to come experience concerts, plays, classes, exhibits and literary programs.

Take a walk down the street and focus on the vast body of public artwork on display, thanks to Naperville’s Century Walk.

Literally hundreds of activities honor the efforts of artists, historians, teachers, and cultural groups working to make the arts and humanities a part of everyone’s life. Be open to new art encounters and join others across the country in this national celebration.
