Naperville Woman’s Club will host inaugural Witches Night Out

-

UPDATE, Oct. 12, 2017 / By 5:10PM, 164 women attired as witches already had swept through the gates for a enchanted evening at Naper Settlement. The sold-out first-time event attracted 600 reservations in advance. Witches Night Out Naperville will return on Oct. 11, 2018.

October Feature Story / Mindful of many changes over the past 120 years since the charter of the Naperville Woman’s Club, the creative and innovative members of today’s organization set into play plenty of entertainment for their upcoming Witches Night Out Naperville. The inaugural event will be held from 5 to 9:30PM Thurs., Oct. 12, at Naper Settlement.

Witches Night Out Naperville has replaced the club’s long-running fall fashion show fundraiser, formerly held in November. Some might suggest after seeing this month’s cover that Witches Night Out Naperville simply is another fashion show with a different theme.

To stay true to its founding ideals of philanthropy and culture, one member’s idea conjured up another; and now the new event will feature enchanting activities under the header, “What’s a Witch to do?”

For instance, fashionably-attired guests can feast on delicious Bites by Belgio’s and Brews; shop for potions, trinkets, baubles and other witchy wonders at the Witches’ Bazaar; listen to eerie ghost stories; frolic with the music and dance to the Monster Mash; wander the halls and rooms of the historic Martin Mitchell Mansion and engage in the pursuit of the Witch Hunt.

In addition, attendees can listen to psychic readings, take a chance on the Bewitching Baskets, compete in the best Witch’s Hat contest, howl at the moon at the Photo Booth and/or cast a magic spell to win the Spooky 50/50 Split.

And even more is planned at the benefit for Families Helping Families, a nonprofit organization that provides apartments and volunteer mentors to homeless families in DuPage County while they are working to reclaim their lives through education.

The good fortune or misfortune, depending how you look at it, is that adult women 21 and over swept up admission tickets so quickly that the first-time event already is sold out.

Ticket holders are reminded to be sure to bring ID if planning to taste the Witches’ Brew at the cash bar.

An ombudsman is Scandinavian in origin dating back to Viking times; and refers to a community representative; usually acting independently on behalf of an organization, body of elected officials, or civic group. Thanks Scandinavia for inventing ombudsman.
