-

Above / Alive Center , located at 500 W. 5th Avenue east of Mill Street, is set to expand next door.

The Naperville community has come together to help Naperville’s teen center expand.

Alive Center is prepared to sign a lease for the space next door, 502 W. 5th Avenue, to add The Alive Innovation Lab. The lab will have a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) room, a Media Room, club meeting areas and a space for quiet tutoring and studying.

Naperville-based Advanced Data Technologies, M. Brown & Associates, Esser Hayes Insurance, BBM Incorporated as well as individuals Nancy and Bill Mitchell, Jim and Barbie Hayes, and Rick and Carroll McNeel (former Naperville residents) have come together to support the Alive Center in this expansion plan.

Alive’s teen created mission is to be a Teen-Led Teen-Driven (TLTD) center focused on empowering the youth of today to become the impassioned, resilient leaders of tomorrow.  The Alive Center began empowering teens in STEM last school year with their STEM Camp for Girls, Computer Science Club for Junior High Kids, Alive Media Group (AMG) and Science Exploration club.

”Advanced Data Technologies is excited to support Alive in bringing more STEM programs to local youth,” stated Dave Kelsch, owner Advanced Data Technologies, in a news release.

Isha Srinivasan, Naperville North High School junior, launched the Computer Science Club and the Girl’s STEM Camp this year and notes, “I am so excited and grateful for the support we have gotten from the community to be able build a place for STEM. This will give us the opportunity to expand our STEM programs by adding clubs like Girls Who Code and allow more students to participate!”

The 15 members of the AMG are ready to utilize their new media room as soon as it is ready to collaborate on building more blogs, memes, and videos that spread positive messages to their peers and community. The AMG provides Alive with a teen perspective and voice on various community topics.

Mark Brown, owner of M. Brown LTD stated, “Our commitment extends beyond financial problem solving for our clients and into the community. We are proud to support the Alive Center in their teen empowerment programs.”

The Alive Center teens are committed to improving STEM experiences among Naperville youth while also cultivating valuable leadership skills. Alive’s model allows teens and tweens of all income levels to have a space to explore STEM freely and creatively. With the new space, Alive will be introducing programs for elementary school youth to spark interest in STEM at an early age.

Open House is planned 1-4PM Sat., Nov. 11

An Open House from 1-4PM is slated on Sat., Nov. 11The new space is set to be fully functioning by January 2018.

Alive is looking for additional partners and sponsors to join them in this amazing STEM journey. In particular, they are in need of tables, desks, chairs and computers donations for the lab.
