Our RAN program has kept us totally overwhelmed. We received 15 calls for rides in one day. We have now done over 100 rides, and I’m writing this column in August, so by the time you read this I know that number will be much higher.
What a wonderful thing for our seniors.
But – we are really needing more volunteer drivers, men or women. This is a great volunteer job as you can look on your computer and see who needs a ride. You can type in on the computer that you will take the rider. The beauty of this volunteer job is that all of this is at your own time.
One of our drivers called and he was so ecstatic with his rider. The rider had requested a ride, he saw it on his computer and called her to arrange it. He asked her if she wanted him to pick her up in his Lincoln Continental or a Mazda Miata convertible with the top down. And you know what she picked. She was thrilled to death with her ride, and so was her driver.
Moving right along, the Housing committee of the Senior Task Force has worked with Avenida, a plan to build “age restricted” apartments on the west side of North Mill across from Nike Park. We are pleased with the amenities for seniors they are including. We only wish developers would make some units smaller and thus charge lower rents. We are diligently working on more affordable rents.
Chuckle Time: I was always taught to respect my elders. But at this time of my life, it is harder to find some.
