Residents are invited to unite with their neighbors and their community in the fight against crime at any of Naperville’s National Night Out events scheduled on three separate dates this summer.

Commonly called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” National Night Out is held annually on the first Tuesday in August. It is a nationwide event designed to heighten drug prevention and crime awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships.

In addition to gatherings in more than 30 neighborhoods throughout the community on August 1, Naperville’s roster of public events celebrating National Night Out includes a kick-off celebration at Centennial Beach on July 31 and an Emergency Vehicle Show in downtown Naperville on August 6.

Kick-Off Celebration at Centennial Beach – 5 to 8PM – Mon., July 31

Centennial Beach

Back by popular demand, the National Night Out kick-off celebration at Centennial Beach, 500 W. Jackson Ave., will feature swimming, a Naperville Fire Department Water Rescue Team demonstration, a balloon artist, sandcastle building competition for the children, and various give-a-ways and resource information. There will be limited food and beverages available, as well. This event is co-sponsored by the Naperville Park District and will take place from 5 to 8PM. A donated breakfast food item benefiting Loaves & Fishes Community Services will get you in for free! Standard pool entrance rates apply without a food donation.

Neighborhood Events – 6 to 9PM – Tues., August 1

At the time of this release, 34 neighborhoods have registered to host National Night Out events between 6 and 9PM on August 1 with plans to enjoy bounce houses, ice cream socials, live music, cookouts, kids’ parades and more! Neighborhood registration is free and gives city representatives (Naperville Police, Fire, Public Works, Animal Control, Electric and Water Utility departments and the Naperville Park District) an opportunity to attend local events with trucks, equipment and information as time and circumstances permit. Neighborhoods interested in participating can still register online by visiting www.naperville.il.us/nno through Friday, July 15.

Emergency Vehicle Show & Kids’ Cycle Mania – 10AM to 2PM – Sun., August 6

City emergency vehicles will be on display.

The City of Naperville is excited to partner once again with the Downtown Naperville Alliance to bring more than 50 emergency vehicles, including new and vintage police cars and fire engines, S.W.A.T. tactical units and modern emergency equipment to downtown Naperville on August 6. This free family friendly event will be held on Jackson Avenue between Eagle and Main Streets from 10AM to 2PM. New this year to the vehicle show is Kids Cycle Mania. This interactive bike course is centered around bike safety. There will be a small bike rodeo course, helmet fittings, bike safety information, local bike resources and giveaways! Kids are encouraged to bring their bikes to go through the bike rodeo.

For more information on National Night Out and all of the above-mentioned events, visit www.naperville.il.us/nno.
