Pulse of Naperville Music Scene – Shokker

-

This month I wanted to give you a little background on my musical upbringing and introduce you to a Chicago-based hard rock band called Shokker.

I grew up in Chicago with two older brothers that opened my ears to 70’s music. My high school years were in the early 80’s, and I fed my ears everything from Culture Club to Iron Maiden. When I was old enough to go see local bands in the live setting, I was out there. I craved hearing local bands as they clawed through the clubs trying to make it to the big time. There was a “Chicago sound” at that time, and Chicago bands usually had a grit that most of the L.A. bands lacked. Now that times have changed, that sound is now a distant memory – or so I thought.

At a recent Queensryche concert in St. Charles, I had the pleasure of seeing Chicago rockers Shokker open the show. With talented players and a singer that had my head spinning in awe, I was truly “Shokked.” Led by the vocal magic of Rachl Raxx Quinn, Shokker is everything that Chicago rock once was. Having spoken with the band after the performance, I came to find that they are educated in the history of that past generation. They know what came before them and they respect and embrace it.

If you’ve ever enjoyed the “Chicago sound” of hard rock that was so prevalent throughout the 80’s, make sure you check out Shokker.
