Journey with Autism – Pause to appreciate freedom on Independence Day

-

Greater than words can express is the kind of freedom we possess in this country. Flags and fireworks and food on grills will fill the day that we mark as the birth of our nation.

How much of the day do we devote to remembering the furious fighting the young country waged slamming hard against the King, and the much voiced bold assertion that the colonies were not long for this world without the rule of England? Likely not too much.

With tyranny easily visible thanks to distances instantly bridged by technology, we can set our eyes on the world, witnessing firsthand how life looks in places without precious freedom. Yet most of us give our freedom barely a second thought and worse, justify hideous behavior by naming it their right, and miss the intended meaning of the word.

Would the Patriots who lost their lives be proud of the hateful speech or fake news our Constitution allows? Lost lives likely traded most precious life to rip away from oppression and to be represented by their peers. Most importantly, we parade our opinions and beliefs without fear of retribution.

As the sky sparkles with light, take a minute and thank our forefathers and mothers for the great battles that allow us to meet life any way we choose.
