Naperville Police investigate fatal accident that occurred early Sunday

Naperville PoliceNAPERVILLE, Ill. — On Sunday at approximately 12:50AM, the Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of 75th St. and College Rd. for a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian at that intersection.

The Naperville Fire Department attended to the pedestrian, transported him to Edward Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries; he has been identified as Richard Schnittker, 21, of unincorporated Naperville.

The driver of the 2010 Mitsubishi, a resident of Aurora, who struck the pedestrian was uninjured in the crash.

The initial investigation indicates the pedestrian entered the westbound lanes of 75th St. at College Rd. when he was struck.

During the course of the initial investigation westbound 75th St. was closed from Ranchview Dr. to Wehrli for several hours.

Due to the nature of the crash members of the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit, trained in crash reconstruction, responded to the scene to investigate the crash, no citations or charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation at this time.
