Disney and Cameron Mackintoshs Mary Poppins, The Broadway Musical, is based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film. This musical is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft. It transports us to London 1910, where the jack-of-all-trades Bert introduces us to the troubled Banks family: George, a father who works constantly, Winifred, a mother who is always distracted, and their children, Jane and Michael, who have suffered without strong care-taking forces in their lives. Their latest nanny has just quit with a fit, proclaiming the children as hopelessly and irrevocably spoiled and misbehaved. Then along comes Mary Poppins with her special combination of whimsy, magic and disciplined common sense into the children’s lives. She takes the children on many memorable and magical adventures but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the practically perfect nanny and realize that anything can happen if you let it. Tickets and showtimes through Sunday at 2PM: naperville203.tix.com.
