Spring for a Cure returns on April 13 to the Pavilion of Meson Sabika.

UPDATE March 10, 2018 / For 2018, A Red Tie Event will return to the Pavilion of Meson Sabika on Friday, April 13. After 16 years of springtime events and 11 years of the Red Tie Event, hosts and organizers Deb Polivka and Brad Polivka have decided this year’s fundraiser will be the last one.

“So let’s fill the room and send them out with a fun, successful evening that will help fund much needed research,” said Ray Kinney, a regular attendee who is keenly aware how cancer touches the lives of every family. “Deb and Brad have quietly done so much for this community, we should return the favor and make this the most successful Red Tie event ever!”

Meson Sabika owner Hossein Jamali once again graciously has donated the entire evening of food and drink, so 100 percent of each and every ticket goes to research, Kinney said.

Founded in 1949, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the largest health agency for blood cancer. LLS provides global funding for cancer research as well as information and support services. Their mission is to find the cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma while also improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

Year after year, this fundraiser proves to be one charity event you don’t want to miss. Guests will enjoy a filet and lobster dinner as well as premium liquors and the restaurant’s famous sangria, compliments of Mesón Sabika. There will also be a silent and live auction, and live music.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $150 per person or $1,250 for a table of 10.

Editor’s Note: We have attended this benefit many times—the delicious dinner, auction items, great music by the St. Francis Jazz Band and camaraderie are known to distinguish this event as an exceptional evening with good company and enlightening conversation with friends.

We’re also remembering back about 12 years when the Pavilion first opened, fulfilling an unmet need for banquet space in the community. The first official fundraising event at the Pavilion of Meson Sabika was for Naper Responds to Hurricane Katrina. It was in 2006 after this city had investigated the devastation created by the 2005 hurricane and need for new homes in Pass Christian, Miss. Thanks to the Polivkas for creating such a lovely banquet space and the generosity of Hossein Jamali of Meson Sabika for providing the refreshments, the fundraising campaign to build 20 homes in the Gulf Coast city got a big boost.

Editor’s Note: We have attended this benefit many times—a time when girls friends have been known to gather, hosting a table for other girl friends, some cancer survivors, and fun night out.

And then there was the Columbia Yacht Club Dock Hop benefit…

Celebrating nearly a decade of successful fundraisers, organizers now host a Facebook event page, as well as a “Fun for a Cure” FB group page with news that they will be hosting a second event this year, in downtown Chicago, so they’ve changed their branding a bit.

The inaugural Columbia Yacht Club Dock Hop will launch from 3-6PM on Sun., May 28, 2017. The cost is $50 per person to step aboard Columbia Yacht Club’s private club ship and gain access to multiple private yachts, touring some of the area’s finest motor and sail yachts.

Organizers welcome guests to soak up the sun on the docks while taking in the best lakefront view Chicago has to offer. Tasting portions will be provided by some of Chicago’s favorite restaurants and one premium drink included.
