At 11:34 AM on Monday, April 24, 2017, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from a resident on the 1500 block of Chat Ct. reporting smoke inside their home with smoke detectors activated.
PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm for the structure fire which brought a total of 3 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 heavy rescue squad, 2 ambulances, 1 incident commander and 1 safety officer to the scene (24 Personnel).
Engine 2 arrived on the scene within 4 minutes and identified a two-story single family home with nothing showing from the exterior. After making entry into the structure the company officer reported moderate smoke conditions on the first floor. A hose line was deployed into the structure and a primary search of the residence was initiated.
Incident command was established and a safety officer assigned to oversee operations at the incident. Arriving crews assisted with establishing a water supply, ventilation and searching for the hidden fire.
Engine 2 confirmed that all occupants had evacuated from the structure prior to the fire departments arrival.
Crews located and extinguished a fire that was located in the basement of the single family home within 20 minutes of arrival. Salvage and overhaul activities were conducted to limit further damage to property and contents.
Additional assistance was provided by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, NICOR, and the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Department. TED declared the home uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted with station coverage by the following fire department agencies: West Chicago, Wheaton, Bolingbrook and Oswego.
There were no reported injuries to firefighters or citizens. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department Fire Investigation Team.
