At 12:19 PM on Thursday, April 6, 2017, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a fire alarm at the 700 block of Inland Circle and immediately dispatched a one and one response to investigate.

Naperville Engine 4 arrived at 12:25 PM and identified smoke in the three-story multifamily complex. The alarm was upgraded to a full still then followed by a general alarm response for the structure fire. The upgrade brought a total of 3 engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 heavy rescue squad, 2 ambulances, 1 incident commander and 1 safety officer to the scene (24 Personnel).

Engine 4 stretched a charged hose line to the hallway and forced entry into the residence. The crew identified active fire within the kitchen and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack. Incident Command was established and a safety officer assigned to oversee operations at the incident. Supporting suppression companies conducted a primary search for occupants, forced entry into adjoining apartments and provided ventilation to remove smoke from the complex. It was determined that there were no occupants inside the apartment unit at the time of fire. Occupants from the adjoining units were removed safely. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes of initial arrival, and salvage and overhaul activities were conducted to limit further damage to property and contents.

Additional assistance was provided by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, NICOR, and the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) Department. TED declared the fire unit uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters, citizens or pets.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and attributed to an overheated appliance by members of the Naperville Fire Investigation Team.
