March 1, Summer school registration: Applications for summer school at North Central College are now available online and in-person. The summer term begins Monday, June 12, with blended and on-campus courses offered daytime and evening. Applicants can choose either an 8-week session or two 4-week sessions. March 1, Documentary: North Central College presents the documentary film “Reel Bad Arabs: How Hollywood Vilifies a People” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Directed by Sut Jhally and featuring author Jack Shaheen, this 2006 documentary traces the history of Hollywood’s depiction of negative stereotypes of Arab people, analyzes the images, and attempts to understand the filmmakers’ motivations. March 3, Visit day: High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend North Central College’s Visit Day on Friday, March 3, in the Wentz Concert Hall lobby at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The day begins with check-in at 9:30 a.m. and concludes at 12:45 p.m. with lunch at Kaufman Dining Hall. Visitors can take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life. March 4, Music: North Central College hosts Chords for Kids, an annual concert for children with special needs and their families, at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The College’s Concert Winds and Symphony Band will perform music that ranges from classical pieces to popular tunes. March 10-11, NCAA track & field championships: North Central College will host the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships March 10-11 at the College’s Al B. Brainard St. Some 500 student-athletes from colleges and universities nationwide will compete in track and field events, beginning at 10 a.m. each day. March 10, Music: North Central College presents faculty jazz artist Brad Stirtz in “An Evening with Jazz Vibraphonist Brad Stirtz” at 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, in the College’s Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. A vibraphonist whose musical career has spanned the globe, Stirtz has gained a reputation as an outstanding professional mallet percussionist, both on stage and in the studio. Chicago Ave. The Texan rock ‘n’ roll trio of brothers debuted in 2003 with their No. 1 radio hit “Heaven,” selling millions of albums, winning a Grammy and garnering critical acclaim. March 18-19, Music: The DuPage Symphony Orchestra presents two performances of “Gershwin Greats,” an ode to the genius of American composer George Gershwin, at 8 p.m. March 18 and at 3 p.m. March 19 in North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. March 21, Job fair for kids: The KidsMatter Student Job Fair will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, in North Central College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center, 440 S. Brainard St. The annual fair provides seasonal and summer job opportunities as well as mock interviews, résumé workshops, and internship experiences to prepare young students for the workforce. March 27, Opening of Science Center: North Central College will host a soft opening of its new Science Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 27, before the start of spring term classes. Members of the community are invited to attend the ceremony and tour the building between 8 to 10 a.m. The grand opening of the entire facility will take place October 20 during the College’s Homecoming celebration. March 31-May 14, Art exhibit: North Central College presents the artwork of Lorraine Peltz, March 31 through May 14, in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E.
