Edward Hospital’s EMS (Emergency Medical Services) “Run of the Quarter” for October-December 2016 has been awarded to the Naperville Fire Department, Station 7, Engine 7, Medic 7 and Medic 9.

The crew was recognized for their response to a call involving an “en caul” birth, an extremely rare delivery that occurs about once in every 80,000 births, in which the baby is delivered while still within the amniotic sac.

“The circumstances of this extremely rare birth were challenging,” stated Bill Kottmann, President & CEO, Edward Hospital, in a news release. “Under tremendous pressure, the team used quick assessment and decision-making skills, along with amazing teamwork, which resulted in a good outcome for both mother and baby.”

In the “Run of the Quarter” program, the Edward EMS Team reviews ambulance runs by pre-hospital providers and selects one to be recognized every three months based on the following criteria:

–Excellent communication from the field that resulted in the timely delivery of pertinent clinical information to the Edward Emergency Department staff

–Clear and thorough documentation

–Superior clinical assessment skills that resulted in accurate recognition of a clinical situation

–Behavior exceeding the call of duty in the field

–Superior partnership and teamwork with Edward Hospital

Edward Hospital is located at 801 S. Washington. For more information, visit EEHealth.org.

Naperville is home to 10 fire stations, strategically situated throughout the city. Station 7 is located with the Naperville Fire Department Administration Building on the Public Safety Campus, 1380 Aurora Avenue.
