At 10:51AM on Monday, February 20 , Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call reporting a fire in the attached garage of a home on the 1100 block of Daisy Ln. (North of 95th Street, west of Naperville Plainfield Road)
A general alarm response was dispatched immediately at 10:51AM which consisted of 3 engines, 2 trucks, 1 squad, 2 medics and 2 shift commanders. Naperville Engine Company 10 arrived on the scene at 10:58AM, within 7 minutes, and reported a fully involved garage fire, heavy fire showing from the front of a two story single family home.
Engine 10 also reported fire had communicated to the neighboring 2-story home with fire showing from the attic space. The engine company advanced a charged hose line towards the exposure while supporting response vehicles were able to direct water to the fully involved garage fire. Incident command reported that all occupants had evacuated the main home and no one was inside the exposure home.
Incident command also reported that fire was being fed by natural gas and requested NICOR to the scene for assistance.
A deck fire on a third home was extinguished by fire companies on the scene.
The alarm was upgraded to the box alarm level bringing an additional 3 engines, 2 trucks and 1 medic unit to the scene. The upgrade also requested a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Incident Management Assistance Team (IMAT) to the scene.
Companies were able to extinguish the main body of fire within the garage and home within 30 minutes. Crews were unable to fully extinguish fire within the exposure home until the main gas line was shut down. The fire was completely extinguished within 60 minutes however crews remained on the scene for an additional 60 minutes to conduct salvage and overhaul operations and check for hot spots throughout both homes.
The box alarm was struck at 12:56PM.
Two homes severely damaged, now uninhabitable
Both homes sustained severe fire damage and were deemed uninhabitable by the Transportation Engineering and Development (TED) inspector on the scene. Additional assistance was provided by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, NICOR, Naperville Water Department, Naperville Police and Fire Chaplains group and the Naperville Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Volunteers. The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by the following fire department agencies: Downers Grove Fire, Lisle Fire, Wheaton Fire, Westmont Fire, Warrenville Fire, Bolingbrook Fire, Plainfield Fire, and Oswego Fire.
There were no reported injuries to firefighters, citizens or pets.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by members of the Naperville Fire Investigation Team.
