Teen’s Taste – Food from across the pond

-

For this month’s column I thought I’d step out of the usual borders and take my readers to London.
Yes, I said London.

Over Thanksgiving break, my family and I went to London to visit my sister who lives in Brixton.

While in London we ate lots of different types of foods. We always ate out at a restaurant or pub for every meal. But my favorite meal was easily the steak pie, a meal we didn’t have in London, but a meal we had in Scotland.

We took a trip to Scotland to visit some old friends of my step dads. While there we went to a soccer game they would call a football game. While at the game we also ate lunch. Our friend told us to get the steak pies, so we, of course, agreed with him. These pies were very small and we ate them with our hands. They were steaming hot, which was perfect because it was super cold outside.

The pies were super crispy on the outside and very crunchy when you bit into them. The inside contained steak bites, mushrooms, and a gravy sauce. The steak was very tender. The mushrooms were nice and soft to chew. The gravy was rich and creamy. It reminded me of the Thanksgiving dinners I would have back in the states. These steak pies were so good that I had to have a second one, and it was just as good as the first one.

When we got back home in America, we decided to try and make a steak pie similar to those in Scotland. It wasn’t exactly the same, but it was very tasty as well. If you’re looking for a good meal full of flavor and variety, try a steak pie, you won’t regret it.

Editor’s Note: Just in time for 2017 educating, inspiring, advocating, and creating change., here’s a link to a Steak Pie recipe that sounds similar to the one Jack enjoyed in Scotland. www.scotchkitchen.com/article/the-perfect-steak-pie-for-new-years-day.
