Art Talk – Wants & Kneads

-

Above / Hope Art Auction is from 1-3PM Sat., Jan. 7, at the Naperville Fine Art Center and Gallery.

Scientific studies have proven that cats have healing powers. Findings indicate that the vibrations from a feline’s purr can offer therapeutic benefits: lowered stress levels, improved heart function, and increased bone strength. Researchers also found that the frequency of a cat’s purr (between 25 and 140 Hz) aids in pain relief, swelling reduction, tendon repair, and joint mobility. Once deemed the spawn of Satan, cats faced mass extermination until the rat population exploded, bringing with it the virus known as the Black Plague. Cats soon regained their place in the natural order of things and helped to eliminate the spread of this devastating disease.

Jumping ahead a few hundred years, Cat Guardians, a Lombard based no-kill, cageless cat shelter, was founded. Funded by donations and staffed by volunteers, their mission is to find homes for abandoned and stray street cats deemed undesirable due to age, medical conditions or socialization issues. The group has facilitated over 2,500 adoptions in its 28 year history.

Hope Art Auction / 1-3PM Sat., Jan. 7

In order to support its No-Cat-Left-Behind policy, the organization is once again hosting their annual Hope Art Auction at the Naperville Fine Art Center and Gallery, 508 North Center Street in Naperville from 1-3PM on Sat., Jan. 7.

Now in its 8th year, the silent auction fundraiser will give attendees the opportunity to bid on high-quality cat-themed items for home, body and soul.  Paintings, prints, and jewelry will be among the offerings and bidding will start well below market value.

Cats offer many benefits to their human companions and ask for very little in return. Even if pet ownership is not an option for you, please stop by for an afternoon of wine, snacks, and beautiful artwork. Lucky winners will take home original art and will leave happy knowing they contributed to a meaningful cause.
