Exchange Happenings – The gift of giving

-

Part of being a member of the Exchange Club of Naperville is volunteering to give back to the community. The Community Service Committee devotes the months of November and December to the service club’s “Adopt a Family” program. Local agencies provide us with names of families and ages of their children that would not be celebrating Christmas due to their financial situation. The Exchange Club “Elves” shop for their families with funding from the club to make sure their wishes do come true.

Also, in December the Junior Exchange Club, with the help of Exchangite Roz Morris and others, hosts the annual Breaking Free Christmas Dinner. This year the special event will be held on Thurs., Dec. 8, at LaSierra in Aurora.

The owner of LaSierra graciously donates the use of his banquet facility and cooks the meal that serves over 600 people. The Naperville Costco also donates bread and desserts.

Breaking Free, a local social service agency, invites the families for this annual event.

Members of the Junior Exchange Club work all year in preparation for this feast. They raise funds at Ribfest by selling glow sticks and other novelty items. The teens also put together fun activities for the children and make sure that each child receives a present. This is a way for the members of Junior Exchange to give back to the community.

Donations are always welcome to help support their efforts. Please contact me at the email below if you would like to contribute to this worthwhile event.

The Exchange Club of Naperville meets on the first and third Fridays of each month at Hugo’s Frog Pond at 11:45AM. Guests and individuals who are interested in membership always are welcome.
