Find the Grinch 12 times while shopping locally

-

Above / Our city is blessed with many shopping destinations where we can support business locally! Find them N. E. W. S. and in the center of Naperville, too! Also find one traveling around town with a Ding! Ding! and a Trolley-la-la-la…La-la-la-la for the holidays. Local matters! Find the Grinch to learn why…

The Grinch is the Grinch! And many independent businesses in Naperville are members of a group of local independent businesses and services that aim to keep local dollars recirculating throughout the community. Perhaps the bright red IndieBound Naperville sign with the shop locally message has caught your eye at shopping destinations throughout the city, including Naperville Trolley & Tours.
Yes. Owners for The Growing Place as well as Kreger’s Brat & Sausage Haus can share great stories about their long history as Naperville independent businesses. Happy Holidays!

December again is providing some extra fun to experience Naperville while the Grinch is on the loose. From Dec. 1 until Christmas Eve, Naperville will be turned into Whoville, the Seussian village that is the setting for Dr. Seuss’s classic book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Following nearly a month of searching for the familiar grumpy, green and grouchy character hidden in stores and businesses throughout Naperville, the Grinch promotion wraps up at Anderson’s Bookshop.  Everyone who participates in the holiday scavenger hunt is invited to a prize-winning raffle, getting into the spirit of the season and growing your heart three sizes for the New Year, too. The wrap up event begins at 11AM on Mon., Dec. 30.

So where’s the Grinch in December 2019?

Find the Grinch throughout Naperville, of course, where shopping, dining, banking and entertaining locally make a difference to the local workforce and the economy.

Already participating merchants (Anderson’s Bookshop, Anderson’s Toy Shop Doors, DeEtta’s Bakery, Dog Patch Pet & Feed, The Boxes, The Growing Place, Kreger’s Brat & Sausage Haus, Naper Auto Works, Naperville Fine Art Center & Gallery and S&R Monograming Inc.) are on a list to check twice as others on a hand-out “playing card” available at Anderson’s Bookshop beginning Dec. 1.

More merchants, all members of IndieBound Naperville, are welcomed on board every day from downtown Naperville to Naperville Plaza to Cress Creek Shopping Center to Dog Patch and other points north, east, west and south.

Note also that some IBN businesses feature the Grinch on their websites. A visit to their websites counts if you find the Grinch and mention where you found it. Hint:  Positively Naperville is one you can mention that you visited online to help grow your total to 12.

Happy 62nd birthday, Grinch!

The Grinch turns 62 this year, and to celebrate, his image will be present at different local and independent businesses all through the month of December. Individuals of any age who spot him can play; winning prizes, however, including candy canes, buttons, books and more, is geared toward youngsters. Grinch figures are showing up in local stores, businesses, websites and other establishments.

Anyone who wishes to participate can stop by Anderson’s service desk to pick up a “Grow Your Heart Three Sizes” search list with the names of all the participating businesses.  Then all ages accompanied by kids are welcome to visit local independents and have the “I Found the Grinch” card (or simply make your own card) stamped for each Grinch they spot. It’s that easy.

Look for the image of the Grinch sitting on the sleigh.

Grinch Wrap Up Party at Anderson’s, 11AM on Dec. 30

Collecting cards in 12 or more businesses and turning them in at Anderson’s will win a small prize and an entry for other, larger prizes of Dr. Seuss-related books and toys to be drawn at the annual Grinch party at Anderson’s in downtown Naperville beginning at 11AM Mon., Dec. 30. Details also are available on a playing “bingo” card at the service desk at Anderson’s.

Again the Grinch promotion is a gentle push to encourage acts of kindness by local children. Once the young participants find 12 Grinch images and receive their Good Deeds Starter Kit, they will be prompted to follow through with kindness. For instance, help do the dishes after dinner; call or spend time with your grandparents; or do something nice for your mom and dad without being asked.

It’s all to help hearts grow this season!

Local Grinch Promotion linked up with Naperville independent merchants

Grinch-Dog_patch2The Grinch was the creation of the late Theodore Geisel in 1957. The beloved Dr. Seuss books have delighted children (and their parents and grandparents) for generations. In celebration of the Grinch’s longevity and popularity, IndieBound Naperville, an always-growing group of approximately 125 independent Naperville merchants, again has adopted the character this holiday season to promote shopping local at businesses right here in Naperville.

Again, the Seuss estate has given permission for this kind of promotional program, and first launched here in Naperville. There is no charge to participate, and the scavenger hunt runs Dec. 1-24, 2019.

For more information about hunting for the Grinch in Naperville, call Anderson’s Bookshop at (630) 355-2665.

Remember! Indie means independent

Inspired by Independent booksellers across the country who came together to unite like-minded businesses and independent thinkers, IndieBound-Naperville is a local movement. IndieBound-Naperville has been growing one merchant at a time since October 2008 with an exhibit of bright red signs that proclaim “Support local independent businesses.”

IndieBound Naperville is an awareness. It’s a celebration of passion that pours out of the heart of the entrepreneur. Thanks for supporting locally-owned independent merchants and all local businesses whenever possible, united in the common cause of keeping our city and every city’s workforce, economy and local culture thriving.

Again… Thanks for shopping locally whenever possible!

Local matters! Sixty-seven percent of every dollar stays in Naperville when you shop here. Happy holidays!
