The Naperville Park District is seeking the donation of a large evergreen tree, preferably spruce, to be placed on the Riverwalk for the 2016 holiday season. The tree will be set in the Dandelion Fountain, near the corner of Jackson Avenue and Webster Street, and traditionally is in place by the third week in November.

Ideally, the donated tree, located in Naperville, will be a minimum of 18 feet tall, symmetrically shaped and in good condition. Additionally, the tree to be donated needs to be located in the front yard so a truck can easily access it and haul it away to its prime spot along the Riverwalk.santa-house-tree-sunAbove / The donated tree on the Riverwalk will enhance the view along Jackson Avenue near the Santa House during the holiday season. Any individual or family that has a tree to be considered for donation should contact Chuck Papanos at (630) 848-3590 or at cpapanos@napervilleparks.org.

The Park District will cut the tree at the resident’s home and transport the tree to the Riverwalk sometime between November 14 and 23, depending on the availability of the pole-setting truck provided by the City of Naperville.

Editor’s Note: This autumn photo of the Dandelion Fountain taken in November 2010 is one of our all-time favorite photos of the water feature that architect Chuck George included when he designed the early Riverwalk. During the holiday season, a traditional  evergreen is placed here, welcoming visitors to the Civic Plaza along the Riverwalk and to all the shopping and dining opportunities in downtown Naperville.
