Pulse of Naperville Music Scene – Driving Music

-

I have to thank my lovely wife for the inspiration this month. You see, I’ll be celebrating my 48th birthday this month and Barb decided to dress me in a 2015 yellow Camaro convertible for the occasion. Yes, I am very blessed (and spoiled). But, as I’m cruising around town I have gained a new appreciation for certain songs. There are songs that just seem to be tailor made for driving.

For the sunny, top-down days, one of my favorite listens is a song called “Summer Sunshine” from Irish pop group The Corrs. The happy freedom of the airy pop sound makes the sun shine a little bit brighter. The more obvious standbys of The Beach Boys or The Beatles can always put a smile on my face, too.

For the more intense driving experience that some might refer to as “tearing up the road,” I have a few favorites. Nothing commands my right foot quite like a song called “Hang On For Your Life” by Shooting Star. I’ve literally had to pull over to have a good stern talk with my foot after listening to this one. Perhaps the most obvious of these intense driving songs is Sammy Hagar’s “I Can’t Drive 55.”

And then there’s the more serene night drive…

The obvious go-to is the Phil Collins’ classic “In The Air Tonight” or The Doors’ “Riders On The Storm,” but one of my faves is a song called “Nightrider” by Dokken. Cool gliding sounds for the cool night drives.

What are your favorite driving songs?
