Above / Rotary Club of Naperville-Downtown President Naish Shah welcomed Chief Operating Officer Bob Ross from School District 203 to inform our club about lending voices as residents and business owners to a survey that goes live for two weeks on Oct. 4, 2016.
During the Rotary Club of Naperville-Downtown weekly meeting on Wed., Oct. 28, School District 203 Chief Operating Officer Bob Ross provided an overview of an online survey soon to be released by the district to collect input from parents, residents and business leaders regarding the yearly school calendar.
The survey aims to learn what our community thinks about the current school calendar as well as school start and end times. Administrators seek input from all ages and whether residents have students in school or not.
During his remarks, Ross referred to the letter written to the community by Superintendent Dan Bridges and the district’s aim to provide all students with options for success upon graduation.
To the Community:
Recently, Naperville Community Unit School District 203 convened a work group to study the optimal school day. The group concluded that our younger students could benefit from additional instructional time each day, and our older students could benefit from starting school later, which is in alignment with recent recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the Centers for Disease Control.
Now, we want to give our community the opportunity to weigh in.
Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 4, we will be conducting our School Calendar and School Day Survey — and we need your support.
This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete and will be sent to the email you provided to the school district at registration. Your answers will be confidential, so please answer honestly. Since we’ll only share the overall results, reports will not identify individuals. No one in the school district will know if you participated unless you identify yourself in open-ended comments.
Everyone has a voice in Naperville 203’s ongoing pursuit of educational excellence. By conducting this survey, we are seeking to ensure the current school calendar and school day are designed to optimize student learning. There are a variety of things to consider and we need your input.
After the survey closes on October 18th, we will share the findings and specific steps we may be taking as a result of your feedback. If you do not receive an email, you may take the survey by visiting our website,www.naperville203.org, and clicking on the School Day/Time Survey button in the top right corner.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this important topic.
Sincerely,
Dan Bridges
Superintendent of Schools
