CAPS Nominations
September 30, 2016

The Naperville Citizens Appreciate Public Safety (CAPS) board is currently accepting nominations from the community to recognize Naperville Fire Department personnel for outstanding service. Nominations are due by Fri., Sept. 30, 2016,  and can be submitted by visiting www.napervillecaps.com. CAPS is a tax exempt, non-profit community group that recognizes public safety personnel for their contributions to the City of Naperville. Each year, residents are asked to nominate public safety employees who have displayed an interest in Naperville’s residents in a manner above and beyond the call of duty and exhibited a genuine concern for the welfare and well-being of all citizens.

Resilience in Prevention Resilience is the ability to face life’s challenges and bounce back stronger, wiser and more personally powerful. Studies show that developing and enhancing skills of resilience can prepare and empower an adolescent to take control of his/her life and make choices that can lead to a healthier future. This year the Power of Choice 6-8th grade campaign will equip parents to help their children build and strengthen those skills. Resiliencia en la Prevención La resiliencia es la capacidad de un individuo de superar retos de varios tipos y volverse más fuerte y sabio. Estudios demuestran que desarrollar y realzar habilidades de resiliencia puede preparar y empoderar a un adolescente para tomar control de su vida y tomar las decisiones que resultarán en un futuro más positivo, poderoso, y próspero. PowerTalk activities provide fun, interactive opportunities for families to connect.  Just as individuals can build skills that make them more resilient, families can also build and strengthen skills of resilience that allow them to more effectively face challenges together.  Use Our Family Portrait to guide a family chat that allows your family to take inventory of existing resilience skills, identify areas that need strengthening and make a plan to build those skills together.

Next Board of Education Meeting

The next regular Board of Education meeting is at 7PM on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Crouse Education Center, 780 Shoreline Drive, Aurora. Meeting agendas and documents will be available online prior to the meeting. Video of the regular meeting can be streamed live or viewed the following day at 204tv.org.


Editor’s Notes / Indian Prairie School District 204, one of two local public school districts serving Naperville, is the fourth largest school district in Illinois with 28,500 students. Encompassing 46 square miles, School District 204 serves portions of Naperville, Aurora, Bolingbrook and Plainfield.

In addition to school board meetings, 204tv.org features many other happenings and programs throughout the district, available every day on demand around the clock.

Note also that four seats (currently held by Marie Curry, Cathy Piehl, Mike Raczak and Benjamin White) on the Indian Prairie School District 204 Board of Education will be up for election on April 4, 2017. For information, visit PN’s Naperville Government Guide of Public Officials. 

For information about running for School District 204 or School District 203 Boards of Education, visit the DuPage County Board of Elections. Petitions are now available to run in the nonpartisan election and must be filed between Dec. 15 and Dec. 22, 2016.
