UPDATE, Sept. 15, 2017 / The 2018 events are slated at the same times on Sat., Sept. 29, in advance of National Crime Prevention Month and National Fire Prevention Week in October.

UPDATE, Oct. 22. 2017 / After last week’s flood-out, the second try at the inaugural Stop, Drop & Run 5K attracted a dedicated group of participants and sponsors, raising more than $10,000 for Naperville Professional Firefighters for a Cause (NPFFC).

The awards ceremony to recognize the top three winners in both the male and female categories had to be moved inside the fire station when the skies opened up again, just as the last runners were headed toward the finish line.

Naperville Fire Chief Mark Puknaitis presented medals to Bill Kostelny (1st Male) Dan Gerken (2nd Male, not pictured), Chris King (3rd Male), Kristi Marsh (1st Female), Gretchen Leland (2nd Female) and Jess Hulfish (3rd Female).

Naperville Fire Department/Public Safety Open House organizer Soraya McLaughlin already is looking forward to the 2nd Annual Stop Drop & Run 5K on a dry weekend in 2018.

Thanks to more than 125 registered participants and many generous sponsors, this year’s run/walk, originally set for Oct. 14, raised enough money to send six youngsters to Camp I Am Me Burn Camp.

Police and fire departments invite residents to new features along with their traditional line-up of family-favorite demonstrations and activities.

Refusing to let last weekend’s storm dampen their spirits, the Naperville Police and Fire Departments have rescheduled both the inaugural Stop, Drop and Run 5K and the annual Public Safety Open House for Sun., Oct. 22.

The 5K will begin at 8AM at the entrance to Fire Station No. 7, 1380 Aurora Avenue, and will bring walkers and runners on a three-loop course around Lake Osborne and Naperville’s Public Safety Campus. Online registration for this race has ended. Race-day registration will be accepted beginning at 7AM at Fire Station No. 7.
