family shelter logoWhether you recognize it or not, domestic violence is right here in the community. The folks at Family Shelter Service are well aware that “someone in your family, your neighborhood or your church is trapped by domestic abuse.”

This October, during Domestic Violence Awareness month, Family Shelter Service will focus on bringing awareness to the fight against domestic violence at home and throughout the community.

To highlight Domestic Violence Awareness Month, individuals representing the nonprofit organization will be wearing purple, sharing stories on Facebook and setting up friends and family fundraising pages to support its October campaign to raise $75,000 through Purple Purse.

In addition, Family Shelter Service will promote “Dining for Dollars” and and other shopping events. Supporters can take a break from cooking and attend shopping events that support Family Shelter Service at the same time. A different restaurant partner each week will help raise funds beginning with California Pizza Kitchen on October 6.

Family Shelter Service will host its annual 5K/10K Run-Walk on Sun., Oct. 30. The community is invited to be a Hero for Hope and run or walk (and fundraise!) to support victims of domestic abuse in DuPage County.  Find  all the details HERE.

As October approaches, Family Shelter Service is reaching out to the community with more information on ways to join their efforts in October as they seek to help neighbors in DuPage who are trapped by domestic abuse, according to organizers.

To make DuPage safer for them – and safer for everyone, keep tabs of all volunteer opportunities and local fundraisers that benefit Family Shelter Service.

In Naperville, Second Chance Resale Shop is located in Tower Crossing Shopping Mall.

In addition, from Monday through Saturday, shoppers can help make a difference at Second Chance Resale Shops, owned and operated by Family Shelter Service in Naperville and Westmont.

The shops, chock full of gently-used donated items, are arranged like a friendly department store. Plus, the shops provide an additional source of income to help Family Shelter support its mission to provide “help and hope” to victims of domestic violence in DuPage County.

What’s more, throughout the year the shops provide clients and their families a place to replenish their wardrobes and households with a wide variety of items, free of charge.

And for creative types, Second Chance Resale is a fun place to shop for costume ideas for Halloween or theater productions while supporting a good cause.

In Naperville, Second Chance Resale is located at 1512 N. Naper Blvd., Suite 172, just off Ogden Avenue on the northeast side of town.
