The City of Naperville and the Naperville-Lisle Townships Triad are pleased to present the Healthy, Wealthy & Wise 2016 conference for area senior citizens on Friday, September 16 from 8:30AM to 12:15PM at the Naperville Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. This informative and engaging conference is a free opportunity for independent living seniors to learn ways to enhance their quality of life from experts in various fields. Based on feedback from past conferences, event organizers have scheduled a line-up of engaging speakers, including Dr. Zaid Jabbar of Edward-Elmhurst Health discussing how to preserve health for longer, happier lives and Karre Parker of Arbor Financial Services to explain how to open the lines of communication regarding finances. Peggy Kinst from Ageless Grace will demonstrate simple cognitive and physical exercise seniors can do while sitting down, and Joe Perez of Microsoft will walk attendees through the use of social media, Skype and other applications as a way to connect the generations. In addition to the presentations, approximately 30 area organizations representing a variety of community senior services will showcase their products and offerings to attendees in the Lower Level Meeting Rooms of the Municipal Center. Caseys Foods located at Naperville Plaza will be firing up its grill every Saturday and Sunday from 11AM to 2PM through October, weather permitting. Choose from a variety of options, including burgers, brats, tacos or the weekly special. Its great food, at a good price, in a fun atmosphere.  Plus, it’s just around the bend from Oswald’s where kids will find school supplies and spirit wear.

American Legion Monthly Social – 6PM| Advance reservation $14 per person
Judd Kendall VFW – 908 W. Jackson
The social season begins for the American Legion. Guests are welcome. Socials are held on the third Saturday in September, October, January, February, March and April.  The dinners start with the social hour at 6PM; followed by dinner at 7PM; and an entertaining program afterward. (On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the dinner is combined dinner for both the American Legion Post 43 and the Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873.) All dinners are open to non-members. Walk to End Alzheimer’s – 8AM | No registration fee for Walk, but we ask to make a donation in the fight against Alzheimers.

Join the Walk. Come out and have fun, while raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. When you participate in Walk, your fundraising dollars fuel our mission, and your participation in the event helps to change the level of Alzheimers awareness in your community. The Alzheimers Association provides free, easy-to-use tools and staff support to help participants reach their fundraising goal.  Time: Registration at 8AM, Ceremony at 9:30AM, Walk at 10AM. Marching Redhawks Carwash – 9AM | donation for car(s) washed

NCHS Bands and Band Boosters Association will hold a car wash fundraiser on Sept. 18 (9AM to 2PM) at Naperville Central High School. Students will be in the NCHS parking lot off of West St and Aurora Avenue. Donations and tips are graciously accepted. These students are working very hard preparing for an awesome marching band competition season. The donations and tips will go to the NCHS Band Boosters to support the current renovations to the band trailer that will be on display.

Benefit for Victims in Italy – 11:30AM-9PM

The folks at Meson Sabika have noted, “Olympics are in the past, and politics are in the future – so let’s focus on the present and come together to help the victims of  Louisiana and Italy.” 100 percent of sales from lunch and dinner will benefit American Red Cross for relief efforts. Last Monday donations benefited flood victims in Baton Rouge. This Mon., Sept. 19, donations will benefit earthquake victims in central Italy.
