Upcoming events featured below are among many ongoing programs at North Central College to enrich and broaden the cultural and academic outlook for the College and community. North Central offers a variety of venues accommodating a rich range of local and world-class events, performances and space needs for the public.

Through Sept. 4, Art exhibit: Members of the Naperville Art League will showcase a collection of their artwork in the exhibit “Monsoon” through Sept. 4 in NCC’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Gallery hours are 10AM to 6PM Monday, 10AM to 9PM Tuesday through Friday, 10AM to 6PM Saturday and noon to 5PM Sunday. To learn more about the exhibit call (630) 637-5375.

Through Oct. 6, Art exhibit: NCC presents expressionistic paintings by Sharron Ott through Oct. 6 in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. Through shapes and hues, her pieces speak to the beauty of nature, bringing awareness of creatures that are endangered and precious.

Sept. 2, Music: The Airmen of Note, premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force, will present a free concert at 7:30PM Friday, Sept. 2, in NCC’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Sept. 5, College closed: NCC will be closed Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of Labor Day.
Sept. 7, Author talk: Anderson’s Bookshops and NCC copresent Robert Hoge in an author talk and book signing at 7PM Wednesday, Sept. 7, in North Central’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. INFO: andersonsbookshop.com.

Sept. 10, Cardinal football: The NCC Cardinals will play their first home football game of the season vs. Webber International University (Fla.) at 1PM Saturday, Sept. 10, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St. Tickets are $6/adults and free to students with a valid ID and to children ages 3 and under. For more information visit northcentralcardinals.com/football.

Sept. 11, 9/11 Interfaith prayer service: The Naperville Interfaith Leadership Association will hold a community commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States at 4PM Sunday, Sept. 11, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Family activities designed to promote tolerance and compassion start at 4PM in the lobby, followed by an interfaith service at 5PM with music, readings and reflections of different beliefs. Sept. 16-Oct. 16, Art exhibit: NCC presents a collection of artwork featuring Bogumil Bronkowski and Nathan Motsinger Sept. 16 through Oct. 16 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Bronkowski’s paintings explore struggle, place and belonging; Motsinger’s creativity incorporates layering and raw materials in his architectural landscapes. The artists will greet visitors at a reception from 6 to 8PM Friday, Sept. 16; complimentary refreshments will be served. Gallery hours are 10AM to 6PM Monday, 10AM to 9PM Tuesday through Friday, 10AM to 6PM Saturday and noon to 5PM Sunday. To learn more about the exhibit call (630) 637-5375.

Sept. 17, Music: Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra will present “Unhinged,” a piano-centric concert at 8PM Saturday, Sept. 17, in NCC’s Wentz Concert Hall, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The Anderson & Roe Piano Duo and award-winning piano prodigy Clayton Stephenson perform in this star-studded concert. Tickets are $60, $48 and $10.

Sept. 18-23, Film festival: NCC’s student film club Celluloid will host films featured during the 6th Annual Naperville Independent Film Festival held the previous week and winners of the European Independent Film Festival. Starting at 7PM, Sept. 18 through 23, films will be shown in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. To view the schedule and learn more about each film visit naperfilmfest.org/Festival-Schedule.

Sept. 20, Transfer information session: NCC will host an information session Tuesday, Sept. 20, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, scholarships and financial aid. Registration begins at 9:30AM in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Sept. 23, Music: NCC presents “An Evening With Jazz Trombonist Tim Coffman” with supporting North Central jazz faculty artists at 8PM Friday, Sept. 23, in the College’s Madden Theatre, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Coffman is a regular member of the Rob Parton Big Band, Chicago Jazz Ensemble and the New Standard Jazz Orchestra. His debut recording “Crossroads” is available on the Blujazz label. Tickets are $20/adults and $15/students and seniors.

Sept. 24, Music: NCC welcomes multiplatinum MCA Nashville recording artist Josh Turner at 8PM Saturday, Sept. 24, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. A disciple of traditional country music and one of the youngest members of the Grand Ole Opry, Turner has garnered multiple Grammy, MCA and ACM nominations. Country singer, songwriter Raquel Cole will open for Turner. Tickets are $75, $60 and $50.

Sept. 26, Presidential debate panel: NCC’s departments of political science and communications will cosponsor a Presidential Debate Academic Panel and Watch Party from 7 to 10PM Monday, Sept. 26, in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Panelists include three of the College’s political science faculty members and two outside experts, Dr. Philip Dalton of Hofstra University and Dr. David Worth of Rice University. Prior to the debate, panelists will offer brief comments on what to watch for in the debate. Following the debate, they will comment and answer questions. This event is free.

Sept. 28, Lecture: NCC will hold a free lecture, titled “Globalization in Politics and Business: Talks and Responses” at 7PM Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the College’s Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St., as part of its campus-wide focus on globalization. Faculty experts William Muck, associate professor of political science and coordinator of global studies, and Robert Moussetis, professor of international business, will lead the discussion.
