Equal Fun for Everyone – New Rec & Roll Location Opens in Fort Hill

-

When Naperville Park District’s new Fort Hill Activity Center opens its doors so will WDSRA’s new Rec & Roll Fort Hill site. This will be Rec & Roll’s 2nd Naperville site, the first being at the Sportsman’s Clubhouse.

Rec & Roll, WDSRA’s adult day program, is a community-based recreation program for adults with special needs ages 22-55. The program was designed to fill a void left after transitioning from high school. Services and activities provided through the educational system end once transition ends. So where are these adults to go and what are they to do all day?

Well, that is where Rec & Roll comes in. The program emphasizes leisure independence, social interaction, community outings and service projects. On a typical day they may be engaged in anything from animal therapy or a field trip to fitness activities or outdoor recreation projects. While being active, they are able to keep their daily living and social skills sharp. At the same time, they acquire new skills and build relationships with peers and the community around them.

Rec & Roll Fort Hill is designed for participants who may require some assistance with daily living skills and may require emotional support from staff. The ratio is 1 staff to 3 participants. If you would like more information, please contact Dori at (630) 681-0962 or dorin@wdsra.com. If you want a sneak peek, stop by the Fort Hill Activity Center Grand Opening Saturday, August 27, 10AM-2PM.  will be hosting an open house in the new Rec & Roll room.

Kudos to the Naperville Park District for being such great partners in making sure that there is dedicated space available for adults with special needs!

Rec & Roll other locations include: Sportsman’s Clubhouse (Naperville), Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center (Glen Ellyn), Fountain View Recreation Center (Carol Stream) and WDSRA (Carol Stream).
