Naperville PoliceAt approximately 5AM on Tuesday, July 26, Naperville Police Department officers were investigating a number of burglaries to motor vehicles and stolen motor vehicles in the following subdivisions: Hobson West, West Highlands, Olympic Terrace and Maplebrook.

While checking the area, officers located an occupied stolen vehicle in the area of Washington Street and Tamarack Drive. Upon being stopped by the Naperville Police Department, the suspect fled from the vehicle and was apprehended a short time later.

Further investigation in the area yielded information that five motor vehicles had been stolen, which included the one located and recovered. Additionally, 30 motor vehicles had been burglarized. A stolen vehicle from the city of Chicago was also recovered in the vicinity.

The vast majority of the vehicles burglarized were unlocked, as were the stolen vehicles. Additionally, the stolen vehicles, which are located below, all had the keys located inside them.

 2007 Maroon Chevy Avalanche License Plate # 1316613B

 2007 Silver Saturn Ion Plate # Jenni31

 2007 Grey Chrysler Sebring License Plate # 7958939

 2016 Black Audi A4 License Plate # R721477

The Naperville Police Department reminds all residents and visitors to lock their vehicles, to not leave valuables inside of them and to not leave keys in a vehicle when not in use. In 2015, 89 percent of Naperville’s reported car burglaries were to unlocked vehicles; locking one’s vehicle is a major deterrent to preventing this crime.

This summer’s “Lock It or Lose It” campaign by the department seeks to remind the public that locking vehicles and not leaving valuables inside of them is imperative.

The suspect arrested was a 15-year-old male from the 1200 block of Euclid Avenue in Chicago. He was charged with Burglary, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Identification, and Resisting Arrest.

If anyone has any information pertaining to these crimes, please contact (630) 420-6666 and ask for the Investigations Division.

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
