At 1:43AM on Monday, July 11, the Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1400 block of North Washington Street for a report of a single vehicle crash and vehicle fire.
The first arriving officers and Fire Department personnel found a vehicle, a 2015 Dodge ProMaster Van, fully engulfed in flames. The Fire Department extinguished the fire and located the driver, who was deceased.
The name of the driver is not being released pending notification of family members.
Due to the nature of the incident, members of the Naperville Traffic Unit, trained in accident investigation and reconstruction, responded to the scene to investigate the accident, along with the DuPage County Coroner’s Office.
Washington Street was closed between Bauer Road and 14th Street throughout the investigation and was reopened at approximately 5:50AM.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Dodge was southbound on Washington between Bauer Road and 14th Street when it left the roadway, struck a tree and became engulfed in flames. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
