Art Talk – Summer reigns & rains

-

Summer has arrived and it brings with it the promise of long days and hot nights, of festivals and fireworks, of concerts and picnics. And, oh yes, of rainstorms. But not all deluges are bad: the upcoming “Monsoon” is a good example of the beauty that can emerge from the darkness.

Beginning July 29, North Central College’s Schoenherr Gallery will serve as host for “Monsoon,” an exhibit comprising the work of Naperville Art League members. This juried display will showcase original art pieces reflecting the artists’ interpretation of the theme and will also remind attendees of the diverse talents of the creative individuals in our community.

“It is exciting to feature the work of local artists in our venue,” said Nickole Lanham, North Central College’s Gallery Director. “The show takes on an intensely intimate feel because many of the viewers will have personal connections with the creators of the work.”

Marking the fourth collaboration between North Central College and the Naperville Art League, the “Monsoon” group display further strengthens the relationship the two entities have built. Lanham first approached NAL’s then-president Laura Rivas in 2009 to discuss the possibility of a partnership. The joint effort spawned the successful “Artists Among Us” show and the relationship was cemented. The organizations continue to work together and the resulting endeavors have been met enthusiastically.

Schoenherr’s doors will open from 6 to 8PM on Friday, July 29 to welcome artists and art lovers for an opening reception. An impressive array of complimentary appetizers and beverages will be served. The exhibit runs through September 4 and is free and open to the public.
