July events at North Central College

Through July 24, Art exhibit: NCC presents “Ordinary,” an exhibit by Michael Barton on display through July 24 in the College’s Schoenherr Gallery, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Barton’s artwork is a collision of photography and woodworking, using ordinary materials and subject matter.

July 1-3, Musical: NCC presents the fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza “Seussical” with direction and choreography by Susan Olsen and musical direction by Ross Berkley. Performances will be staged at 7:30PM July 1-2 and at 2PM July 3 in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Tickets are $18/adults and $12/students and seniors.

July 4, College closed: North Central College will be closed Monday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

July 8, 11, 25, Freshman information sessions: NCC will host three summer information sessions in July for high school students and their parents or guardians beginning their college search. Held Friday, July 8, and Monday, July 11 and 25, these shorter sessions begin at 9:30AM with registration in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. Brainard St. Visitors can take a walking tour and learn about financial aid and the application process. July 8-10, 14-16, Opera: NCC’s Summer Light Opera presents a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, “Pirates (and Piracy),” with direction by Matt Boresi and musical direction by Jeordano Martinez. Six productions will be staged at 7:30PM July 8-9 and 14-16 and at 2PM July 10 in the theatre in Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Tickets are $18/adults and $12/students and seniors.

July 13, Author talk: Anderson’s Bookshops and North Central College copresent Emily Giffin in an author talk at 7PM Wednesday, July 13, in North Central’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St. Her new book is titled “First Comes Love: A Novel.” For more information call Anderson’s at (630) 355-2665 or visit andersonsbookshop.com.

July 18, Visit Day: High school students and their parents or guardians are invited to attend North Central College’s Visit Day on Monday, July 18. Registration begins at 9:30AM in the Wentz Concert Hall lobby, 171 E. Chicago Ave., and concludes with lunch at noon. High-achieving students are invited to an optional session at 9AM. Visitors can take a walking tour and attend informative sessions on financial aid, academic highlights and student life. July 22, Transfer information session: NCC will host an information session Friday, July 22, for transfer students. Visitors can learn about academic choices, transfer admission process, scholarships and financial aid. Registration begins at 9:30AM in Smith Hall at Old Main, 30 N. July 29-31, Musical: NCC presents the Rodgers and Hammerstein landmark musical “Oklahoma!” directed and choreographed by Brian Lynch with musical direction by Ali Kordelewski. Actors from the community will perform at 7:30PM July 29-30 and at 2PM July 31 in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Set in western Indian territory after the turn of the 20th century, a spirited rivalry between the farmers and cowboys sets the backdrop for the budding romance between a young cowboy, Curly, and his sweetheart, Laurie. Tickets are $18/adults and $12/students and seniors.

July 29-Sept. 4, Art exhibit: Members of the Naperville Art League will showcase a collection of their artwork in the exhibit “Monsoon,” July 29 through Sept. 4, in North Central College’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. An artists’ reception will be held from 6 to 8PM Friday, July 29; complimentary refreshments will be served. Gallery hours are 10AM to 6PM Monday, 10AM to 9PM Tuesday through Friday, 10AM to 6PM Saturday, and noon to 5PM Sunday. To learn more about the exhibit call (630) 637-5375.
