Naperville Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Crash Route 59 and North Aurora Rd.
On Sunday June 26, 2016 at 4:54PM the Naperville Police Department responded to the intersection of Route 59 and North Aurora Rd. for the report of a vehicle crash.
Responding units observed three vehicles in the area, which were involved in the crash. The vehicles involved were a silver 2004 Infiniti J35, a silver 2009 Lexus RX350, and a bronze 1991 Mercedes 300D.
The Naperville Fire Department responded to the scene and provided emergency medical attention to the passenger of the Infiniti, an 86-year-old female from Aurora, who was injured and transported to Edward Hospital. The passenger succumbed to her injuries later that evening while at Edward Hospital.
Preliminary investigation indicated the driver of the silver Infiniti was eastbound on North Aurora Rd. in the inside through lane.
The driver of unit 1, an 86-year-old male from Aurora, turned left from the through lane and was struck by unit 2, driven by a 27-year-old male from Aurora, who was traveling westbound on North Aurora Rd.
The light was green for east and westbound traffic on North Aurora Rd. as unit 2 proceeded through the intersection.
The impact from the crash caused unit 1 to then strike unit 3, driven by a 40-year-old female from Chicago, who was stopped at the red light on southbound Route 59 at North Aurora Rd.
The driver of Unit 1, James E. Courtney, was later cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device, Improper Turn, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
