Ahhh…..summer! It’s time to head outside for some family fun. What better way to play together than at one of the Sensory Garden Playground (SGP) Play Days. The SGP is not your ordinary tot lot. No sir.
This universally accessible playground allows all children, with and without disabilities, to play together. It is a barrier-free environment where all children can feel comfortable doing what they do best…play. Phase One of the SGP boasts a two-five year old Pony Stables Playground, Sound and Fragrance Gardens, and a Central Gathering Area. Everything can be reach easily by accessible paths, which is especially beneficial for those individuals with physical disabilities.
A new edition coming this summer is the Art Along the Way showcasing a Musical Mare and Sensory Arch created especially for the SGP by Geneva-based artist Joe Gagnepain. Both are designed to engage a child’s imagination as they discover the unique sights and sound inherent to each one.
Though the SGP is open every day, just like any other playground, all families are invited to come out to one of the special Play Days taking place this summer. This is a great time to explore the area and take advantage of the family-friendly activities including: face-painting, lawn games, gardening, and a whole lot of more!
The 2016 summer Play Days are 6/18, 7/16 and 8/20 from 10:30AM-12:30PM. They are free and open to the public.
The Play for All Playground & Garden Foundation responsible for the development of the SGP is comprised of the following organizations: Wheaton Park District, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), Kiwanis Club of Wheaton, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, and Shane’s Inspiration.
