Art Talk – Notes, quotes and the Knights of Ni

-

How long has it been since you broke convention and enjoyed something zany? If you haven’t channeled your wacky side since the Bee Gees ruled the airwaves, then maybe it is time to embrace the outrageous. The After Hours Film Society invites you to a special screening of the Sing-Along Quote-Along 40th Anniversary version of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” at the Tivoli Theatre on Monday, June 13.

First released in 1975, this cult classic “… is as gut-bustingly hilarious as it is blithely ridiculous.” Rotten Tomatoes assures us that now, 40 years later, “’The Holy Grail’ has lost none of its exceedingly silly charm.” Written and performed by the comedy group of Monty Python (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin), it has been named the second best comedy of all time in the ABC special, “Best in Film: The Greatest Movies of Our Time.”

Irreverent and absurd, the film breaks ground in its humor and innovation as it retells (unofficially, of course) the legend of King Arthur’s search for the coveted Holy Grail. Lines are crossed, rules are broken and audiences are delighted as the follies unfold. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters and partake in the onscreen antics. After all, “This is supposed to be a happy occasion. Let’s not bicker and argue over who killed who.”

Profits from this program will support the After Hours Film Society’s Student Film Festival. Now in its 14th year, the competition has attracted the attention of students from around the world. Entrants whose submissions receive top ratings from the judges will be awarded cash prizes and their films will be screened in a special presentation tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct. 17.
