At 12:57PM today, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point received a call reporting smoke coming from the roof of a one-story commercial restaurant located on the 1100 block of East Ogden Avenue. PSAP immediately dispatched a general alarm assignment of 3 engines, 2 trucks, 1 squad, 2 ALS ambulances and 2 shift commanders to the scene.
First arriving units reported light smoke exiting the roof through kitchen’s ventilation system. Fire crews quickly evacuated all occupants from inside the building and used a fire hose to extinguish a small kitchen fire. The fire was extinguished within ten minutes of the fire department’s arrival. The fire department checked the roof and ventilation system for hidden fires and evacuated the smoke from the building.
There were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters. The extent of the damage is minor in nature, however the business will remain closed until inspected by the DuPage County Health Department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, Nicor, Naperville Police, Electric, and Transportation and Engineering Departments. Units from the Bolingbrook, Wheaton, and Downers Grove Fire Departments and the Plainfield Fire Protection Districts assisted in providing coverage to the rest of the city during the incident.
