Art Talk – Say What?

-

A young boy from Bangkok sequestered in a kitchen must face his enemy: a plate of boiled carrots. Eloise, a dreamer from Montreal, gets lost in the frenzy of a citywide celebration and searches desperately for her sister. Two high school siblings leave their home in South Korea to work with underprivileged students in Cambodia. Friends Matt and Pat from Glen Ellyn examine the 10 Plagues of Egypt with a new perspective.

What do these situations have in common? They are all storylines in winning entries from the After Hours Film Society’s 2015 “Say It In Eight” Student Film Festival. Out of 89 films submitted locally, nationally and internationally, 20 student filmmakers were recognized for their outstanding contributions and received cash prizes for their efforts.

Now in search of entrants for its 2016 competition, the After Hours has placed a call for student filmmakers of any age to submit their cinematic creations to the 2016 “Say It In Eight” Student Film Competition. Now in its 14th year, the festival is accepting submissions with a running time of 8 minutes or less through June 30 for consideration. Students of all levels (elementary, high school, undergraduate and graduate) are eligible and may submit their entries electronically by visiting either www.filmfreeway.com or www.withoutabox.com.

Submissions are also being accepted by mailing a DVD of the film to the After Hours Film Society, P.O. Box 5266, Wheaton, IL 60189.

A team of judges will evaluate each individual film based on age level and category (fiction, non-fiction, music video or animation/experimental). Films receiving the highest ratings will be screened at a special program at the Tivoli Theatre, 5021 Highland, Downers Grove, IL, tentatively scheduled for October 17, 2016.
