Art Talk – March on In

-

Ask Naperville residents if they can direct you to the Naperville Fine Art Center & Gallery and many of them won’t be able to help. Although the building has been standing on the northeast corner of Center Street and 5th Avenue for well over 40 years, it remains one of Naperville’s best kept secrets. Naperville Art League’s (NAL) Board, the driving force behind the center, would like that to change as the public is invited to discover the bounty of activities the center has to offer. Take a look at what is coming up:

March opens with the Alliance of Fine Arts’ Student Scholarship Exhibit. Running from Wed., March 2 through Sat., March 5, the show comprises works of suburban high school students from LaGrange to St. Charles. A closing reception is planned on Sat., March 5 from 1 to 3PM.

Next, entries for “Broken Barriers,” NAL’s 13th annual public art competition, will be on display from Wed., March 9 through Thurs., March 17. A special reception and awards ceremony on Sun., March 13 is set for 2-4PM.

The intriguing post-modern watercolor works of Ian Mitchell Wallace will fill the gallery on Fri., March 18 and Sat., March 19 for a special one-man exhibition. A reception is scheduled for Saturday from 2-4PM. Art enthusiasts will be given another opportunity to view the show when NAL moves its monthly Fourth Friday celebration to March’s third Friday from 7 to 9PM. The public is invited.

The league returns to showcasing its members’ work on Wed., March 23 with the opening of the “Nostalgia” exhibit which runs through April 7. Member exhibits change monthly and all artwork is for sale.

And there are more offerings in store. NAL members keep a gift area stocked with original art pieces for purchase. The league also hosts a variety of classes for those interested in honing up their skills or developing new ones.

In addition, NAL highlights September 17 and 18 when it presents its crown jewel, the nationally recognized Riverwalk Fine Art Fair, an event that brings top rated artists to the heart of Naperville.

Now that the secret is out, NAL members look forward to seeing you soon!
