Teen’s Taste – Your Mum’s Grilled Cheese

-

We all have really busy schedules, so keeping it simple in 2016 is my motto.

For me, my day goes from school, to work or to sports, plus all of the practices.

This month I decided to write about a sandwich and side dish that are so simple to make I can even do it. You could call it, “The all-American Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Macaroni and Cheese with a Morrissey Twist.”

To start, I use two pieces of white bread. I butter one side of the bread and place both slices in a medium heated skillet. I then add two pieces of American Cheese, one on each side. The twist I like to use is to place four pieces of pre-cooked Oscar Meyer bacon on top of the cheese. Once the cheese begins to melt, I close the sandwich and let it cook for an additional minute or two until I can see the cheese melting. Mmmm mmmm good, just like the way my mom would make it for me on a cold wintry day along with a cup of soup.

Though for my side dish, I choose the pre-made Stouffers mac n’ cheese. I preheat the oven to 375 degrees, place the mac n’ cheese into a glass Pyrex pan and sprinkle ½ cup of shredded cheddar. I also add crumbled up gold fish, then top it off with 2 tablespoons of melted butter and bake for 20 minutes.

This meal is an explosion of cheese and is a feel good meal. So next time you are feeling stressed or your family is busy running … remind them of a family classic and make dinner for them.

And tell them Jack the foodie said, “Sit down, relax, enjoy and smell the cheeses! Until next month, remember to keep it simple.
