The Drones are coming. The Drones are coming to DuPage County, that is. As the only summer collegiate baseball team calling DuPage County its home, the Drones’ name, a trending technology tool, intends to draw the attention of young and old to its home games at Benedictine University, opening May 28. The Drones will play in the Prospect League, one of the premier summer collegiate wood bat leagues in the country.
Joshua Schaub, team owner, recently announced the team name and logo at local events, including Lisle’s State of the City Speech where he stated, “We need to be different to get people’s attention.”
The Drones, through its name, logo and management team, look to capture everyone’s imagination.
Co-General Managers Evan Gersonde and Mitch Kukay both have baseball management experience and are committed to seeing that the Drones will provide affordable family entertainment. They are dedicated to promoting America’s national pastime in a safe, fun, friendly and exciting atmosphere that allows fans to enjoy the experience.
The Drones home field will be the Benedictine University Sports Complex, near the intersection of Yackley/College Road and Maple Avenue and will include a kids’ zone, tailgating area and special home plate club seating area. The fans will be asked on an ongoing basis what they want and the Drones will seek to deliver.
In naming local attorney Gerry Cassioppi of Nyberg & Cassioppi as Director of Community Relations, Drones management sees the importance of becoming integrated with the DuPage community, and working in partnership with local businesses and nonprofits, including opportunities for group outings and marketing sponsorships.
The 12-Team Prospect League has teams stretching from Missouri to West Virginia, and is where many MLB players started, including such past names as Mike Schmidt and today’s stars, such as Jonathan Papelbon.
