Eat your heart out in Naperville on Fat Tuesday, Valentine’s Day and all during Restaurant Week

Couples, romantics and good friends will be delighted with Naperville Valentine’s Day festivities in 2016. From cards to restaurants and roses, area businesses are ready with special menus, gifts and packages.

Before doing anything, visit Oswald’s Pharmacy for many sweetheart deals, including candies and novelty chocolates from Fannie May, Russell Stover, Brach’s, Hershey’s and Farley’s.

Naperville’s oldest pharmacy, now beginning its 141st year, also has a huge selection of Valentine cards designed for all ages and senses of humor. Plus, their ever-growing selection of gifts offers something for everyone. What’s more, the branch of the U.S. Post Office in Oswald’s creates a convenient one-stop place to shop, package and send special Valentines in time to arrive to family and friends by Feb. 14.

Oswald’s Pharmacy is centrally located in Naperville Plaza, a popular shopping destination on the southwest corner of Gartner at Washington near Casey’s Foods, Walker’s Charhouse and Peterson Fine Wines.

Downtown Naperville

As always, be sure to make reservations at restaurants early to avoid disappointment.  Downtown restaurants, like Hugo’s Frog Bar and Fish House – located at Main Street Promenade – are almost completely booked-up.  And, don’t forget to tip your servers, bartenders and valets.

Catch 35 at 35 S. Washington in downtown Naperville will be offering an array of a la carte seafood menu items. A Mardi Gras theme and Cajun specialties will spice up the night at Heaven on Seven, 224 S Main St., every time you stop by the popular restaurant, including Valentine’s Day. The normal dinner menu will be offered as well as many local craft brews on drought.  Some Cajun specialties include shrimp and grits, chicken voodoo, Louisiana crab cakes, Andouille sausage with sweet potatoes, gumbo and more. There also are the famous jalapeno-cheddar corn muffins.

But first, Fat Tuesday is Feb. 9 at the New Orleans-style eatery. Live music and hurricanes await Mardi Gras revelers. And don’t forget the gumbo!

Downtown Naperville also is chock full of gift shops and card shops for specialty items just fit for the heart.  For starters, check out Anderson’s Bookshop, Anderson’s Two Doors East, The Irish Way and Naperville General Store, all located along Jefferson Ave.

CityGate Centre

CityGate Grille, usually closed on Sundays, will be serving its full dinner menu inspired by the flavors of the Mediterranean on Valentine’s Day.  Some specials will be on the menu, too. Reservations can be made by calling (630) 718-1010 or by visiting www.citygategrille.com. CityGate Grille is located in the Calamos investments building in CityGate Centre, I88 and Rt. 59.

In addition to Sunday brunch, SugarToad is featuring a multi-course Sunday, Feb. 14.  Reservations can be made by calling (630) 778-8623 or by visiting www.sugartoad.com. SugarToad is located in the Hotel Arista at 2139 CityGate Lane in Naperville.

The Pete Ellman Big Band is back

PEBBAnd just in time for Fat Tuesday, The Pete Ellman Big Band is back performing all that jazz at BaseCamp Pub & Eatery, located at 5750 Lakeside Dr. in Lisle.

According to Pete Ellman, Naperville Central will play from 7PM to 7:45PM and PEBB will take the stage from 8PM to 10PM Tues., Feb. 9.  “BaseCamp is a great place to play,” said Ellman. “The bands sound great in this terrific new space with delicious food.”

Stay tuned for updates every Tuesday when a different school band will play a set prior to the Pete Ellman Big Band.
