Video Voice – Time flies faster and faster

-

It’s a common perception that as we age, time seems to pass much faster than when we were young. There are lots of theories on why this phenomenon seems to occur. One is that as we grow older, we experience fewer memorable events each year by which to measure time, so the years blend together and therefore seem to pass more quickly. I disagree.

As we move through the years between college graduation and retirement, there’s no doubt as our responsibilities increase, our lives get busier. So, I think the real problem lies in finding the time to reflect and appreciate all the special moments.

As another year comes to a close, I’ve decided to write down and reflect on all the memorable events of 2015 – both personally and professionally. It won’t necessarily change the nagging sensation that this year ‘flew by’, but I’m confident it will reinforce the feeling that my time was well spent.

Here are my Top Ten NCTV17 memorable events for 2015:

  1. Celebrated 10 years of Business Connection designed to promote local businesses
  2. Broadcast many community events LIVE on the channel and online, including the inaugural India Day parade, 9/11 Memorial, annual crosstown classic football games, and Veterans’ Day Ceremony
  3. Provided 72 local not-for-profits with a free interview on Spotlight to showcase their mission
  4. Rebranded our monthly news magazine show as (630) Naperville
  5. Launched a new website to better showcase our video stories for the community
  6. Passed 3 million combined views on the station’s News and Sports YouTube channels
  7. Upgraded the studio lighting grid with support from a SECA grant
  8. Educated five summer interns through hands-on experience in the field of broadcast journalism
  9. Recruited six new residents to the NCTV17 Board of Directors to help drive our mission
  10. Welcomed many new staff members to the station in News, Sports, and Operations who are committed to, “connecting our community by sharing your stories.”

On behalf of all of us at NCTV17, best wishes for a happy holiday. We’ll see you in 2016 – it will be here before you know it!
