Members of the community attended the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11AM on Nov. 11 organized by Naperville veterans from the American Legion Post 43 and Judd Kendall VFW Post 3873. Just prior to 11AM, a bell tolled from the 72-bell carillon, followed by patriotic music performed by the Naperville Municipal Band.
At the base of Moser Tower, featured speaker Allen J. Lynch spoke to a large crowd, overlooking a backdrop of 2,015 American flags on Rotary Hill, a part of the Naperville 2015 Healing Field of Honor field of flags standing as a solemn tribute to those who fought and died during the Vietnam War. Lynch is a Vietnam Medal of Honor Recipient.
Until Nov. 12, visitors to Rotary Hill also will have the opportunity to observe a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall to remember that more than 58 thousand died serving in Southeast Asia and many veterans who returned from the conflict did not receive a worthy welcome home.
