Video Voice – DIY or Hire an Expert?

-

Like most first time homeowners, when my husband and I bought our first home, it was a fixer upper and in need of a lot of TLC. Luckily we were both pretty handy and six years and a lot of DIY work later, we sold it and purchased a much newer one in Naperville. However, as the years went by, even our new home required some improvement projects, but this time around we realized many of them were beyond our ability…so we hired the experts.

At NCTV17 we’ve recently experienced this same cycle. For the past decade, the station developed and maintained its own website, but with ever-changing technology, new SEO tools, and thousands of videos, we recognized the time had come to hire a web expert to take our site to the next level.

We see this same situation play out in video production. As web videos have moved from a ‘nice-to-have’ to a ‘must-have,’ many businesses and nonprofits run to the store and buy basic camera and editing technology to create their own. However, while a DIY carpenter and a trained professional both use the same basic saw and hammer, the quality of the final product is usually quite different. The same is true for videos.

A trained professional delivers a video with strong storytelling utilizing focused and well composed b-roll interspersed with believable sound bites, great audio and lighting, interesting graphics, and a professional announcer and music track.

With 80 percent-plus of all purchases starting with online research, the video on your website must reflect the quality of the product or service you’re providing.

As a nonprofit, NCTV17 helps fund our mission by utilizing our knowledge, expertise and equipment to produce videos for local clients.

So, if you need a video, we invite you to shop local and consider your local TV station for your video storytelling needs. In the same way using an expert in home repairs often saves you both time and money, so too does hiring a professional video production services team. The quality is guaranteed and the time saved in staff costs and equipment makes good business sense.
