I love movies and I write, so when I met movie aficionado and author Patricia Haley-Glass, I felt an affinity. Like many who first meet her, I was surprised to learn that she is a bestselling author of novels, especially since she has an engineering degree from Stanford and an M.B.A. from the Univ. of Chicago.
Patricia is a “never say never” individual. She is employed full-time in Corporate America, a wife and mother and active in her church and sorority. And, like me, she can’t pass up Tuesday movie nights when the popcorn is free.
In 1998 Patricia started “writing what (she) wanted to read and wasn’t able to find in the stores — clean fiction (without the sex and profanity), set in modern day, addressing real issues, relatable characters, and filled with a spiritual twist that honors God and gives people hope that with faith they can get through any situation.”
Her motivation sounds a lot like the recent movie War Room from the Kendrick Brothers. Hollywood movie critics, who apparently dislike films with an overt spiritual message, panned War Room, but it was a surprising box office success with a public hungry for something of substance. I saw it (on a Tuesday, of course). The audience and I actually applauded.
Patricia Haley sees her writing as a ministry of encouragement. She often finds that “people won’t follow through (with their dreams and goals) because they feel they are not doable.” She believes that you have to have internal motivation and drive which then can become an inspiration.
After almost a dozen successful novels, Patricia’s journey has led her to discover that writing is her gift, finance and math her passion, and encouraging others her purpose.
